SALISBURY, Md. - Hundreds opened their pocketbooks for a good cause this afternoon. The Lower Shore Chapter of the American Red Cross put members of our news team to work today for the annual Celebrity Luncheon and Auction.
More than 40 tables of local businesses and organizations placed bids on items donated by the community. They are in need of a lot of money, especially after this year's horrendous hurricane season.
American Red Cross, Comm. Exec., John Culp, said "we've had a big year with Hurricane Sandy and spent a lot of money. The Red Cross is still spending a lot of money as you know from the reports in New York and New Jersey. And we have to re-supply here locally. Every dollar counts, you bet your life."
This is the Red Cross' biggest fundraiser of the year. Last year's event raised about $30,000.
