Citigroup Job Cuts Won't Affect Delaware

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Gov. Jack Markell's office says it's been told by Citigroup that the company's plans to cut 11,000 jobs worldwide will have no impact on Delaware.
    
The job cuts announced by Citigroup on Wednesday amount to about 4 percent of Citi's workforce of 262,000. The company says most of the cuts will come from Citi's consumer banking unit, which handles everyday functions like branches and checking accounts.
    
The Delaware Economic Development Office last year awarded Citi a $3 million grant to outfit a new card and retail services facility in the Brandywine Building in Wilmington.
    
As of February of this year, Citi had a total of about 1,800 employees in New Castle County.
