WICOMICO Co., Md. - Participating teams and event details have been released for the 2012 Governor's Challenge Basketball Tournament.

37 high school teams from Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia will go head to head at the Civic Center starting Wednesday, December 26. In 2010, Governor Martin O'Malley issued a challenge to Delaware's Governor Jack Markell. The wager - a Maryland Smith Island Cake to a Delaware Peach Pie. 26 of the participating teams will fight for the Maryland vs Delaware Cup.

"This is a chance for us to see some teams that we've never seen before, and just gives us a chance to see where we are, where we stand and where we're going to be in March. It's all about having fun. We got the kids to learn a little something and just have some fun while they're doing it," Pocomoke High School coach Derrick Fook said.

In addition to tournament play, there will be a Dr. Pepper 3-point Contest on Thursday, December 27 followed by the Dr. Pepper Slam Dunk Contest.
