Mars Rover Finds "Complex Compound" In Soil

Posted: Updated:

WMDT 47 NEWS - A big update from NASA on Mars.

Scientists controlling the Curiosity rover analyzed soil from the red planet and found a sample containing oxygen and a chlorine compound.  We spoke to a DSU official who has been working with the mission  about what this means.

"There's also a good detection through a chem cam, a chemistry camera of major and minor elements so that is there but I do want to stress that it is important to realize that this is the first set of measurements and more will be happening," said Dr. Noureddine Melikechi, dean of the College of Mathematics, Natural Science and Technology.

Curiosity will continue to collect data for the next two years.
