USS Fort McHenry Returning To Virginia Beach

Posted: Updated:

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - The USS Fort McHenry is returning to its home port in Virginia Beach.

The amphibious dock landing ship is finishing up a five-month deployment to the eastern Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean and Black Seas. It will arrive at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story on Friday.

While deployed, the ship conducted an amphibious assault exercise with Romanian sailors and also conducted training with French Marines. The ship also hosted U.S. Ambassador to France, Charles Rivkin.

The ship also hosted a reception in Ireland for Navy Secretary Ray Mabus and Chief of Naval Operations Jonathan Greenert. Navy officials were in Ireland for the "Emerald Isle Classic", a football game between the U.S. Naval Academy and Notre Dame.
