SEAFORD, Del. - A Sussex County school is expanding. Education officials broke ground Thursday that will offer students new options.
The countdown to the future of a successful endeavor has begun. Come next school year, students at Seaford High School will be rushing the halls of a $36 million State of the Art facility.
"The community has told us the things they want for the students, essentially the hopes and dreams, so knowing that we're building programs based around what out students and our community wants," said Seaford High School's Principal, Dr. Todd Fishburn.
"The building is going to have classrooms for the New Tech Academy, include a new culinary arts wing, and it's going to have a new greenhouse for our ag program," said the superintendent, Shawn Joseph.
The project has been in the works for over two years, about as long as the New Tech Academy has been in existence. Officials say it has exceeded their expectations.
"We're seeing an increased attendance rate, reduced disciplinary numbers as far as referrals, we're also seeing an increase in test scores well," said Dr. Fishburn.
"We expect Seaford to be one of the best school districts in the state," said Joseph.
You may recall, Seaford school officials were asking the community for donations to help with the New Tech Academy, but they tell WMDT they are no longer doing so for the time being.
