Delaware Regulators Authorize 511 Travel Number

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware regulators have authorized the use of the telephone number 511 for a travel information network.

The Public Service Commission's approval on Thursday moves Delaware a step closer to implementing a travel advisory network similar to those already in effect in many other states, including neighboring Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The networks can provide motorists information about accidents, road construction and other potential impediments to traffic.

The Federal Communication Commission in 2000 established 511 as the universal dialing code throughout the nation to allow citizens to access highway, multi-modal, and other travel information using cell phones or landlines.
