Virginia Holding Substance Abuse Prevention Expo

Posted: Updated:

MANASSAS, Va. (AP) - Virginia officials are holding an expo as part of a statewide substance abuse prevention initiative.

The gathering is scheduled for Thursday morning in Manassas at the Virginia Department of Forensic Science Northern Laboratory.

Officials say Gov. Bob McDonnell's prevention initiative is designed to help parents, educators and youth advocates teach teenagers about the dangers of substance abuse.

More than 20 exhibitors are set to share available programs and resources. State Secretary of Public Safety Marla Decker also is scheduled to speak.

McDonnell announced the initiative in October. The first expo was held earlier this month in suburban Richmond.

Spring expos are expected to be held in Hampton Roads and southwestern Virginia.
