Winter Fertilizer and Manure Application Regulated in Delaware

Posted: Updated:

DELAWARE - A reminder for Delaware farmers, lawn care companies, golf courses and other nutrient handlers.

The Department of Agriculture says fertilizer and manure should not be applied to the ground during the winter months - the time of year most vulnerable to nutrient run-off. These regulations also apply to snow-covered or frozen ground, or on surfaces such as sidewalks, roads or other paved areas. Failure to comply may result in a compliance and enforcement hearing before the commission.
