Powerball Frenzy Hits Delmarva Helping Business

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - It's lotto frenzy around the nation, and Delmarva is no exception. Even the possibility of winning the second largest jackpot in lottery history is enough for customers to feel lucky.

"It's huge what can you say you win something like that if you don't die of a heart attack you got it made," Thomas Rhodes tells WMDT while buying his ticket.

Playing the powerball is simple, simply choose 5 lucky numbers in this white section of your ticket. Then choose your powerball in the yellow. If you're not sure what your lucky numbers are simply check the quick pick box. That will have the computer choose them for you.

Local stores tell WMDT tickets are going like hot cakes. Thirsty's on College Avenue in Salisbury says they have sold an average of 100 tickets per hour.

"Today has been pretty busy so far we had a couple customers spending two, three hundred dollars on it,"Vino Mankad, an employee at the store, tells us.

While sales have been high, they don't compare to the mega millions jackpot earlier this year, where lines were wrapped around the store.

"Because powerball is a two dollar ticket a lot of people don't really want to spend two dollars on a ticket but hey guess what 500 million your way to go you know," Mankad says.

Everyone who plays has equal chance of winning that 550 million dollar jackpot. However you must purchase your ticket by 9:00 PM Wednesday.
