Disaster Aid Briefings For Delaware Officials Post Sandy

DELAWARE – The Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA), working in partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), announces that federal disaster assistance has been made available to Delaware to help state, municipal and certain private non-profit agencies recover costs incurred from Tropical Storm Sandy.  Briefings are scheduled across the State of Delaware for potential applicants for Federal Public Assistance (PA). Potential applicants may attend a briefing in any of the locations, regardless of location of office or agency.  The dates and locations are as follows:

These applicant's briefings are intended for state and local government agencies and certain private non-profit organizations that incurred costs responding to Tropical Storm Sandy.

Individual property owners and private businesses are not eligible for Federal Public Assistance. 

The Federal Emergency Management Agency share of potential disaster assistance for eligible and approved Delaware applicants is 75 percent of the eligible cost incurred. 

FEMA Public Assistance (PA) funding is awarded to help pay for approved and validated emergency protective measures, and repairs to public infrastructure.  The program includes funding for both emergency and permanent work.

To be eligible for PA, project costs must exceed $1,000, the work must be required as a result of the declared disaster, it must be located within the designated disaster area, and must be the responsibility of the applicant. Also, insurance must be deducted and assistance cannot be available from any other federal agency.

Examples of eligible private nonprofit facilities include some public utilities, custodial care and

medical organizations, and educational institutions. Eligible nonprofits must hold current federal

tax-exempt status and possess a Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number.
