SALISBURY, Md. - Barbara Regina Hooks Kelley departed this life on Thursday, November 22, 2012 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Selma, Alabama on January 20, 1933 to the late Richard Monroe Hooks and Ada Mae Persons Hill. Barbara's loving husband of 58 years, Page Wilson Kelley died in June 2008. Her only child, Page Wilson Kelley, Jr. died in 1995. She was also preceded in death by her only brother, Richard Alexander Hooks in February 2005, her oldest sister, Patricia Louise Hooks McDonald in April 2012 and her step-sister, Betty Joyce Thompson Caudill in February 2010.
Barbara was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, mentor and dear friend to many. She leaves a large family and numerous friends to mourn her passing, including two sisters: Toni Hooks Kasko (and family) of Baltimore and Ann Hooks Hill (and husband Jack and family) of Chincoteague. She will be fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law, Brenda S. Hooks (wife of the late Richard A. Hooks) of Salisbury and Ann Kelley Stevens (wife of Tom Stevens) of Atlantic, VA. Barbara will be missed by several nieces, nephews and cousins, especially first cousin Sybella Wood (and husband Jack and family) of Pensacola, FL.
Barbara attended public schools in Onancock and Chincoteague and completed her Bachelor of Science in nursing at Salisbury University. She retired as a registered nurse from PRMC in 1994 after many dedicated years. Page and Barbara Kelley were founding members of the Salisbury Church of Christ and volunteered at Vacation Bible School camps for many years. Barbara will be remembered for her kind, compassionate care, both personally and professionally for family, friends, neighbors and her pets.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 11 am. Family and friends may call Tuesday, November 27, 2012 from 6 PM to 8 PM at Holloway Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Robert E. Kondrup – Minister will officiate. Interment will be in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
