VA Port Authority Hears Privatization Proposals

Posted: Updated:

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - The Virginia Port Authority has heard pitches from three groups seeking to operate some of the state's ports.

Representatives from APM Terminals, RREEF America L.L.C. and Virginia International Terminals Inc. gave presentations in Norfolk to the authority's board of commissioners on Tuesday. The trio had already submitted written proposals and a public hearing discussing them was held earlier this fall. Detailed proposals are due Dec. 3.

Officials say the review process could be concluded by next May.

The Port of Virginia is the third-largest port on the East Coast.
