VA Initiative Encourages College Applications

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia is kicking off an initiative at more than a dozen high schools to encourage the Class of 2013 to apply to college.

Gov. Bob McDonnell has designated Monday through Friday as Virginia College Application Week at 16 pilot schools.

McDonnell says the initiative will provide hands-on support for students to apply to any of Virginia's 23 community colleges, 16 public colleges and universities and 33 independent colleges.

It also is an opportunity for all Virginia high school seniors to apply to at least one higher education institution.
