Homeless Families Gather At Cathedral Of Love For Hot Meal

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - It's the day many give thanks for their family, for friends and for a roof over their head.

But for those that are homeless, it's more than just a hot meal.

It's their chance to bond with others.

"I have no family that wants to help me, no family that wants to do for me, so I'm kind of on my own," said Michael Thorn.

Thorn said coming to the Cathedral of Love for a Thanksgiving dinner makes the day a little easier.

"It's a blessing," said Thorn.

He isn't alone.  Vanessa Ross told us that her family lives in a shelter. It's a situation that her grandson and she do not wish to be in after being evicted from their home.  Even though they are in a shelter this Thanksgiving, it's still a special day for them.

"It's a day to be with the family, to enjoy yourself [and] to have peace," said Ross.

Her grandson, Isaiah Perez said that "it means to me that we're giving thanks."

As they enjoy their hot turkey dinner, church volunteers cater to them, helping to make it a day not to forget.

"There's a lot of people no matter what's going on in their individual lives that are willing to help somebody else," said Craig Wilson, an elder at Cathedral of Love.
