Local Choir Groups Opens For The Rockettes

Posted: Updated:

BERLIN, Md. -- Some Choir Students at Stephen Decatur High School had the opportunity of a lifetime. They traveled to New York City to perform before the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. After taping one of their rehearsals, they sent it in only to be chosen for the opening act.

WMDT caught up with the group and got a sneak peak of the performance.

"Their department reviewed the tape and told us we'd be good to go, and we were the only choir on that day," Choir Director Josephine Cover tells us.

Students were equally as excited.

"The experience was really great because not a lot of kids get to do that and it's just a great opportunity standing right where they stand and being able to perform like they do," said 11th grader Carly Berderman.

Now they want to make it a yearly tradition. With cuts to the arts programs, the students had to pay their own way.

"Budget cuts really do hurt us our budget was cut here in Worcester County and it's really difficult to find money," Cover says.

The group has already started fundraising for next years trip. If you would like to help them you can buy a 50/50 raffle ticket for just a dollar.

Also they are selling 10 dollar discount cards for Mione's Pizza in Ocean City.
