As a specialist in sports medicine, Houston surgeon Dr. K. Mathew Warnock will be the team physician for the Cy-Fair Bobcats again this year.
Houston, TX (PRWEB) November 20, 2012
Orthopedic surgeon Dr. K. Mathew Warnock announces that he will be the team physician again this year for Cy-Fair High School. The Bobcats look forward to a successful football season and hope to remain injury free.
Last season the Cy-Fair Bobcats were the District 17-5A Champions and completed the first perfect season in the school’s history. They look to build on that again this year and return to the playoffs. The team is lead by Head Coach Ed Pustejovsk, the Cy-Fair football coach for the past 32 years. In addition to assistance provided by Dr. Warnock, the team will also be working with athletic trainers Chris Graf and Katie York.
“A major key to success this year will be to keep their starters healthy and to remain injury free,” says Dr Warnock. “It's important that athletes understand safety on the field. This helps them avoid injury and prevents every student in the game from being injured.”
Sports injuries among student athletes, has been a pressing issue in the past few years. Students who have been hurt playing the game may require shoulder surgery and could suffer from life-changing disabilities. Many organizations such as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention have been educating parents and coaches on how to prevent injuries like concussions. Having an orthopedic specialist as a team physician can also act as an educational force.
“A lot of students will want to work through an injury and continue to play,” says Dr. Warnock. “A big part of why I work with high school football players is to teach them how to both prevent injury and how to treat injuries so that they can play to the best of their abilities after recovery.”
