SALISBURY, Md.- Workers frantically are starting to prepare for Black Friday in stores across Delmarva.

They're upping their inventory and their staff, getting ready for the rush of determined Holiday Shoppers.  But believe it or not, the big day can also bring some safety risks and local police want to make sure you shop smart.

"People need to be aware of what's going on around them," said Salisbury Po9lice Ofc. Richard Weber.     It's the most wonderful time of the year for deals.

As shoppers across the Eastern Shore start making lists for Black Friday, police are getting ready to keep everyone safe.

"It's just an increased volume of people, people out looking for great deals," said Ofc. Weber. "I guess the Black Friday is the day they do get them, but we also have extra patrols out in those areas for the amount of people."

Shoppers should take some precautions to ensure their safety during the early morning rush.

Here are some tips from police:

1) Park Safely - Make sure your car is safely locked and near a well-lit area.  Also, put items you bought in your trunk.

2) Do Not Carry A Lot Of Cash - Keep handbags as close to you as possible

3) Lost Kids Need To Know Where To Go - Officers say parents need to tell their children, if they get lost, find a security guard or a store employee.

Businesses, like Vernon Powell Shoes are getting ready for the frenzy as well, hiring extra security for the anticipated long lines.

"We just want to keep it organized," said VP Shoes president Joe Wright.  "We don't do the door busters where people are going to be tackling each other to get a deal, so we try to keep it simple.  Everybody gets a good deal."
