Former Gov. Candidate Moran Exits As Democratic Chairman

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, Va. - Brian Moran is leaving as chairman of the Virginia Democratic Party, announcing that he won't seek another term after his party won presidential and senatorial elections last week.

Moran steps down next month when the state party's ruling central committee meets in Williamsburg. The committee will select a new chairman that day.

Moran, who represented Alexandria in the House of Delegates, unsuccessfully sought the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in 2009, and is the brother of U.S. Rep. Jim Moran. He held the chairman's seat for two years.
