Mountaire Farms Looking To Feed Thousands On Thanksgiving

Posted: Updated:

SELBYVILLE, Del. - In it's 18th year, Mountaire Farms' "Thanksgiving For Thousands" is ready to ship holiday meals to those who need it most. But first they need YOUR help.

They will be packing all the food collected into boxes on Monday. For the past several weeks, they've partnered with several local organizations to gather select items from shoppers at local stores.

This year the need is greater than ever.

"I've never seen anything like this. People don't realize there are homeless children in our public school system," Roger Marino, spokesperson for Mountaire Farms, tells WMDT.

Now that the food has been collected, they need volunteers to help pack it up to bring to those who need it most. Hundreds of volunteers packing 10 thousand boxes. They are looking to feed at least 50 thousand people this Thanksgiving

Once the food is packed it will then be brought to The Dagsboro Church of God, to be shipped to those in need in Sussex and Kent counties.

Then they'll do it all again for Christmas.

"We'll do the same thing here again only that food will go to the food bank the local homeless shelter, the local soup kitchens, and the local food kitchens," Marino tells us.

They will still need donations and volunteers for Monday. Then following they will need food donations for the Christmas drive.
