Billy O' Brien, Ex-Delagate And Coach, Dies At 83

CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Joseph William "Billy" O'Brien, the former state delegate who sponsored legislation creating the Virginia Lottery, has died. He was 83.
    
The Virginian-Pilot reports (http://bit.ly/QCaxzI ) that O'Brien died Friday. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home confirmed the death on its website.
    
O'Brien was a three-sport standout at Wilson High School before playing football at North Carolina. He compiled a 146-43-11 record as the football coach at Great Bridge High School from 1955 until 1974. His teams won five district championships.
    
O'Brien served from 1974-1991 in the House of Delegates, where he chaired the Education Committee.
    
A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel.
