Nanticoke Piers, Baby Oysters Lost During Hurricane Sandy

Posted: Updated:

NANTICOKE, Md. - Residents in Nanticoke are picking up pieces from Hurricane Sandy.  Their piers were damages, some that had baby oysters attached to them.

Officials are estimating that half of the cages were lost in the storm.  Last month, the Nanticoke community filled 250 cages with more than 750,000 baby oysters for their 3rd Annual Oyster Recovery Program.

But we're told that this is the only community affected and that none of the other 8000 cages across the state were damaged during the storm.
