Democrat McAuliffe Announces Bid For VA Governor

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, Va. - Terry McAuliffe is running for Virginia governor again.

The former Democratic National Committee chairman announced his 2013 candidacy in a mass email to supporters Thursday.

McAuliffe unsuccessfully sought his party's nomination for governor four years ago. He lost a three-way race to state party chairman Brian Moran and state Sen. Creigh Deeds, who was defeated by Republican Bob McDonnell in the general election.

McAuliffe had previously acknowledged plans to run, so the more formal announcement comes as no surprise.

Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling and Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli are seeking the Republican nomination.
