SALISBURY, Md. - Frances Dykes, 79, died Nov. 5, 2012 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family following complications from surgery. Frances was born in Salisbury, Maryland on September 16, 1933, the eighth child of the late S. Kent Dykes and Ethel Frances Dykes. She was the last surviving sibling. Frances lived her entire life on the Eastern Shore surrounded by her extended family and friends. She was a graduate of Wicomico High School and recently attended her 60th class reunion. She spent most of her working career at several trucking firms, including Masten and Red Star. After retirement, she worked part-time at the Sylvan Learning Center with her niece Becky Grinath. Frances was a very active and dedicated member of Grace United Methodist Church in Salisbury. She was a very involved part of the church family, taking on any and all projects to benefit Grace Church. Every spring Frances could be found in the church kitchen with other members working to produce over 6,000 handmade chocolate dipped Easter eggs. Frances did not know the meaning of "no", she could be counted upon to take on any and all projects and see them thru completion. She was a true pillar of her church community and she will be sorely missed by her church family. Even though Frances had no children of her own, she considered all her nieces and nephews her children. After the death of her sister Ruth Ruark, "Aunt Frances" became the special mother and grandmother to Brenda Twilley, her husband Russell, and their children, Justin, Mallory and Amanda. She truly had a heart of gold.
Frances was preceded in death by all her siblings, Harry Dykes, Mervin Dykes, Lola Dykes, Wilsie Dykes, Catherine Dykes, Elizabeth Wilson and Ruth Ruark. Also preceding her in death were her nephew Douglas Wilson and great-nephew Justin Twilley. She is survived by her loving niece Brenda Twilley and her husband Russell Twilley and their daughters Amanda Twilley, Mallory Jones and husband Lance Jones and their children Cole and Hayley Jones. Also surviving are her nephew Stanford Wilson and wife Veronica, niece Diane Thomas and husband Daniel, several great nieces and nephews.
