Advice Against Contracting Scams Post-Sandy

Posted: Updated:

WMDT 47 NEWS - With many Delmarva residents still recovering from Sandy and a Noreaster possibly on the way, officials are warning against clean-up scams.  Flooding and other storm related damage has people looking for someone to help rebuild not only their homes, but their lives.

At what can be an emotional time, Ron Lewis of the Maryland State Police had some advice for those looking for help.

"When you have a disaster people try to come in and try to take advantage of those that are most needy.  And what I would recommend is for anybody who needs any kind of repairs to make sure they have proper identification," said Lewis.

Lewis also recommends that if you have any doubt about someone's qualifications, double check with your local zoning board; they can let you know if a contractor is indeed licensed.
