Salisbury Businesses, Workers Learn To Identify Counterfeit Bills

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - With holidays just around the corner, Salisbury police will be on the look out for fake money.

Police and the United States Secret Service spoke to businesses and workers at the Centre at Salisbury, giving them tips about how to detect counterfeit bills.  Officials said several ways to detect: to look at the serial marks, series year and color-shifting ink.

"If they take a moment to learn the different security features, they can actually put a stop to most of the counterfeiting that they see," said Gary Eitel, a special agent for the Secret Service. "The local counterfeiters, the kids who will print money [will put it] out on their Inkjet printers."

Officials tell us that if businesses encounter fake money, they should call their supervisor, put the bill away safely and call police to identify the bill.
