GUMBORO, Del. - Dorothy Elizabeth Stephens, of Gumboro, passed away peacefully at the Wicomico Nursing Home on November 2, 2012. She was 91 years old. Born in Pittsville, MD on December 16, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Carrie Short Lewis. In 1939, she married her late husband of 60 years, Preston Stephens. She co-operated a Grain Farm for 60 years with her husband. She was a member of Gumboro Wesleyan Church, and was very proud of being a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was a skilled Wall Paperer. She never met a stranger and was always a very positive person with nothing negative to say about anyone. She was devoted to her family, whom she adored.
She is survived by two sons: Bruce Stephens and his wife, Jo Ann, of Gumboro; and Ira Stephens, and his wife Diane, also of Gumboro. She also has a brother surviving: Hilton Lewes, and his wife Anna May, of Parsonsburg, MD and two grandchildren: Bart Stephens; and Kurt Stephens, and his wife Kerry. In addition to her parents, and her husband, she was preceded by a brother: Harley Lewis, and his wife, Doris.
A Graveside service will be held at 2 PM on
Monday, November 5, 2012 at the Jones
Cemetery in Gumboro on Lowe's Crossing Road. Pastor David Souder will officiate.
