With Fenwick Island Closed, Local Restaurant Stays Open

Posted: Updated:

FENWICK IS., Del. - Most businesses near Fenwick Island remained closed.

But not Smitty McGee's, where the owner said even Sandy couldn't stop her from staying open.     The restaurant only closed on Monday because of the State of Emergency.  One employee tells us that residents of the island have been calling the restaurant non-stop.

"They've been asking us, 'Are we open?'" said Ian Roth, assistant manager of Smitty McGee's. "Of course we are, we were open at around 2 o'clock this afternoon.  They were asking how their properties were since we have been here 23 years.  They expect us to know in case their properties are damaged."

Sussex County Emergency Operations Center said that at this time, all access points to Fenwick Island are closed.
