OCEAN CITY, Md. - It's being called the worst hit area on Maryland's Eastern Shore.
Ocean City's beach ripped apart, the ramps were covered with sand, debris now litters the boardwalk and the fishing pier is halfway gone.
"We lost the T-section the eastern most section, probably about 100 feet of the pier," said Mayor Rick Meehan.
The high tide cycle and storm surge thrashed the beachtown. Bayside businesses like Fager's Island suffered the most. WMDT got a walk-through of the damage.
The pier at Fager's Island is probably the worst hit area. Part of the center of the pier is gone, and the gazebo no longer exists. It got blown to pieces, washed away and now sits in the parking lot of the business.
"It's pretty amazing that the angel rode out the storm as the gazebo went over into the lot. People had a lot of memories of that, so we'll get it back and we'll work as hard as we can to get things back open," said Kevin Myers, General Manager of Fager's Island.
Besides the water damage inside, officials tell us Fager's is structurally sound.
By Seacrets, Warrens Park was drowning. One trailer's skirt was torn off, and a pontoon boat got pushed through the center, and somehow parked itself beside a trailer.
"This is really amazing for me to see it sitting up like a vehicle right in the driveway," said Warrens Park resident, Daren Milbourne.
Mayor Rick Meehan says the fishing pier hasn't been damaged since an ice storm in 70's. No worries though, officials expect it to be back up and running for the 2013 summer season.
