CRISFIELD, Md. - Sandy may be gone, but her remnants remain in Crisfield.
"[This is] probably the worst storm that we've had in modern history," said Steve Marshall, Somerset County Emergency Services Director.
Sandy may be gone, but her remnants remain in Crisfield. The city is covered in water.
"It's just, it's been crazy," said resident Michael Beckley.
Water ran up to door steps of many homes.
Trees uprooted on several blocks.
Cars were stranded, left in the middle of the street.
"Sandy was far worse than what we anticipated," said Marshall. "We had people stranded in their homes."
The National Guard, firefighters, EMS, police and several water rescue teams, including one from Charlotte, N.C. were brought in to help out: doing anything necessary to keep citizens safe, even something unprecedented for the city.
"We've gone door-to-door, tried to check every single house in the city of Crisfield and surrounding areas, just to make sure everybody is okay," said Marshall.
For residents, the storm seemed unreal.
Beckley said that his mom "actually lived on Main St. and they actually had to evacuate her with a boat."
Now, the city will try to recover. First, assessing everything.
"We got a lot of damage. We're going to be a long time recovering from this storm," said Marshall.
