Officials Warning Crisfield Residents To Use Bottled Or Boiled Water

Posted: Updated:

CRISFIELD, Md. - The Somerset County Health Department is warning Crisfield residents to use bottled or boiled water, as water could be contaminated from flooding associated with Hurricane Sandy.  Bottled or boiled water is safe for drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene.

Bringing water to a rolling boil for at least one (1) minute is sufficient to ensure the water is safe to use for consumption.  After boiling, remember to let the water cool before use.  Ice which has been made since the flooding began should not be consumed or used for drinking.

The Health Department will lift or revise this advisory as necessary.  The advisory is a precautionary measure and will be lifted after water service and quality are fully restored and water quality tests verify the safety of the water supply.  This process may take several days.

For more information, residents should call the Somerset County Health Department at 443-523-1700.
