Evacuation Shelters Being Shut Down

WMDT 47 NEWS - A few evacuation shelters around Delmarva are now closing. Middletown High School in New Castle County and Smyrna Middle School in Kent County, are both currently are empty, and are closing as of 12 PM, Tuesday.

There are still five more shelters that are open in the state, they are: William Penn High School in New Castle, Dover High School in Kent, Milford Middle School in Sussex, Cape Henlopen High School in Sussex and Indian River High School, also in Sussex.

Officials say that more are likely to close over the course of the day, because the populations continue to decline. Currently 284 people are in shelters throughout the state.

In Wicomico County, the shelter at James M. Bennett High School, has also been shut down.
