SOMERSET COUNTY - The entire city of Crisfield is under water. The area saw more than 5 feet of water, heavy winds and rain, and downed trees.
Residents were urged to leave their homes and flee to safety, however many of them staying put. Officials say they had to bring in more trucks and humvees, to take residents to a nearby shelter safely.
"Most people that have lived here all their lives have to be the judge of that. We asked that people evacuate low lying areas, and I hope they did. Obviously, we got some people that didn't we'll do the best we can to get to them," said County Commissioner President, Rex Simpkins.
For those people that have not evacuated the Crisfield area, officials are urging everyone to get to the shelter at Washington High School in Princess Anne.
"We have movies going on, a social area in our cafeteria, we're just trying to make everybody comfortable," said William Johnson, Principal of Washington High School.
Officials tell us they've got food, plenty of water, and enough space for your pets too. The National guard is still trying to rescue residents from their homes, especially those living in Crisfield. @
"I had to leave my home because of the flooding so I want to give thanks to the Crisfield Police Department for coming and picking me up," said Pastor Diane Ellzy from Crisfield.
Officials say Washington High School will remain open until need be. They still have plenty of space, but if they fill up, UMES will open their doors.
