GEORGETOWN, Del. - Former Georgetown Mayor Brian Pettyjohn is now on the ballot for the 19th State Senate District race.
The news comes after a scandal over former State Senate candidate Eric Bodenweiser, who is facing serious sex crime allegations. The Sussex County GOP officially nominated Pettyjohn to replace Bodenweiser on Oct. 16th, days after Bodenweiser officially suspended his campaign, then withdrew from the race. After filing legal action to force the issue, the Delaware Republican Party can now say there will be equal representation on the ballot.
"In terms of getting new absentee ballots out and also ensuring the ballots in the voting machines are correct, we thank them [Commissioner of Elections] and commend them for their work," said John Fluharty, executive director of the Delaware Republican Party. "There can be no doubt that Brian Pettyjohn is the rightful Republican nominee."
Commissioner of Elections will re-issue new absentee ballots to voters in the 19th District.
