Congressional Map Question Getting Less Attention

Posted: Updated:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Maryland voters are seeing numerous ads about high-profile ballot questions such as same-sex marriage and gambling, but they are not hearing much about whether to approve or reject the state's congressional redistricting map.

Ask voters about Question 5, and it's not uncommon to see their faces go blank.

Bill Councill, a 76-year-old Glen Burnie resident already has decided he favors gambling expansion, but he says he doesn't know anything about the ballot question on congressional redistricting.

Doris Windham, a 23-year-old Annapolis resident, says she's heard a lot gambling, but she would have to do some research to reach a decision on Question 5.

Critics say the map has been unfairly drawn to oust a 10-term Republican congressman in western Maryland. Supporters say the map reflects demographic changes.
