POCOMOKE CITY, Md. - Ralph Pilchard Lankford, 86 of Pocomoke, died Monday, October 22, 2012 while tending his farm in Pocomoke City.Born September 25, 1926, he was the son of the late Stanley Edward Sr. and Beatrice Pilchard Lankford. A life-long farmer, he was well known in the farming community. Over the years he had maintained dairy and beef herds, and for many years raised Appaloosa Horses. He attended Salisbury State Teacher's College and graduated from the University of Maryland's College of Agriculture with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He was a member of the Pitts Creek Presbyterian Church. Organizations in which he had participated included the Somerset County Farm Bureau and the Pocomoke City Elks Lodge #1624, where he served as a Past Exalted Ruler.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothea Humphrey Lankford; one sister Anne Lankford Leveridge of Glen Allen, VA; 8 nephews, Tom, Fred and Jim Lankford, Rick Leveridge, Scott and Dr. Peter Brubaker, Michael and Chuck Humphrey; 4 nieces, JoAnne Ellis, Nancy and Susan Brubaker, and Marilyn Humphrey.In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother Stanley E. Lankford Jr., sister-in-laws, Margaret Seiga Elmore Lankford and Betty McGee Lankford and brother in law, W. John Leveridge.
A funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Lois Lehman, will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Pitts Creek Presbyterian Church in Pocomoke City, where family and friends may gather one hour prior to the service.
