SALISBURY, Md. - In our final interview, leading up to the Walk To End Alzheimer's we get to know more about the man this event is dedicated to.
We told you about Doctor William Hytche, former President of UMES, and his battle with this disease. Recently, we sat down with his daughter Jaqueta. She says it wasn't easy, but she took care of her father. Jaqueta tells WMDT, William's memory loss was difficult to come to grips with, but the family never gave up hope.
"Being that my dad knew that his father had Alzheimer's he had planned and we never, it never even entered our mind to put him in a nursing home," said Jaqueta Hytche-Simms, Dr. Hytche's Daughter.
There's still no cure for Alzheimer's disease. However, with help from the community in donations, officials hope to raise money for research.
Again, the walk is on Saturday at the Salisbury/Wicomico Senior Center. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the walk is at 10. WMDT's Alyana Gomez will be there emceeing the event, so be sure to stop by.
