DOVER, Del. - Another candidate running for office in Delaware suspended his campaign. Only this time, it is for monetary reasons.
"I heard on the radio somebody questioning my seriousness where I'm on the ballot two different times," said David Eisenhour, Libertarian candidate. "I wanted each of the citizens of Sussex County to know that I was in fact serious about running for Clerk of the Peace."
Recent polls have the Delaware Insurance commissioner contest at nearly even with incumbent Karen Weldin Stewart ahead of Republican Ben Mobley by one point.
For Mobley, he sees this as an opportunity.
"One to two percent, I think in this race in this year in 2012 is going to make a huge difference, said Ben Mobley.
"I do officially back Mr. Mobley's campaign," said Eisenhour.
Libertarian David Eisenhour admits he suspended his campaign for insurance commissioner for funding issues and to focus on his bid for Sussex County Clerk of the Peace. He's asking his supporters to consider Mobley.
"I've read his 12-point plan for reforming insurance in the State of Delaware and it's a positive step for all Delawareans."
In a state that has in recent years voted Democratic, Republican candidate Ben Mobley has renewed optimism.
"We're proposing to increase the number of options available to consumers," said Mobley. "Delaware has a full tort and that's it. If we expanded the market that would bring down costs dramatically that would bring out ratings down more dramatically when I would like us to go from ninth to 25th."
Earlier this month, incumbent Karen Weldin Stewart stated that during her term she has lowered automobile insurance for the state of Delaware.
But according to Mobley, she is currently proposing a larger tax increase.
"You have businesses that are still not back to where they were pre-recession so to add a 43-and-a-half percent increase in one year, especially after we just hiked up over 11-percent last year is detrimental to our businesses."
We reached out to Stewart tonight for comment, but as of this evening she has not returned our calls.
