ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Four candidates for U.S. Senate in Maryland are holding their first debate.

The debate is being held Wednesday on Larry Young's WOLB-AM radio show, with Democratic incumbent Sen. Ben Cardin and Republican Dan Bongino. Independent Rob Sobhani and Libertarian Dean Ahmad are also participating.

Early questions in the debate focused on the economy.

Cardin says he supports a bipartisan plan to deal with the budget deficit. He also says he supports revenues and making people pay their fair share in taxes.

Sobhani, an entrepreneur, says he wants to attract more investment from overseas in Maryland.

Bongino says he supports tax cuts to put money back in the pockets of Maryland residents.

Ahmad says the federal government needs to stop taxing productive activity.
