GEORGETOWN, Del. - A Georgetown man, who withdrew from the race for the 19th State Senate District seat last week, has now been indicted on multiple sex crime charges.
The Delaware State Police wrapped up a few weeks long investigation by indicting Eric Bodenweiser, 53, on 113 total counts, including 39 counts of 1st degree unlawful sexual intercourse and 74 counts of 2nd degree unlawful sexual contact.
Police say that their investigation showed that Bodenweiser sexually abused a child between October 1987 and August 1990.
Following the indictment, he turned himself in, and is being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution on $250,000 bail. If Bodenweiser posts bail, officials tell us that he will be monitored by GPS device and pre-trial supervision by Probation and Parole.
After his arrest, we reached out to the Delaware Republican Party for comment and they released this statement to us:
"It is our understanding that this afternoon very serious criminal charges were filed against Eric Bodenweiser, a former candidate for the Delaware Senate. Because Mr. Bodenweiser is no longer a candidate for public office, the Republican Party of Delaware will have no further comment on this situation."
