SALISBURY, Md. - HALO is celebrating its 5th anniversary in Salisbury.
A big gala kicked off at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center. The organization helps the area's homeless get back on their feet with shelter and the HALO café. Officials say to date, they've served over 140,000 meals. The group's founder says it's all about helping those facing tough times, a situation she too faced.
"Approximately seven years ago, I was in a position where if it hadn't been for my family and those close to me, I could have just as easily been on the street like those that I serve," said Celeste Savage, executive director of HALO.
HALO will soon be opening a new facility that will house women and children. Those who stay there will also learn valuable life skills like how to properly budget their money.
