Gang Related Gun Fight Leaves Crisfield Man Dead

Posted: Updated:

CRISFIELD, Md. - Shots rang out in Crisfield on Thursday night into Friday morning, leaving one man dead, a community worried for their safety, and police searching for answers.

Around 1:18 am, Crisfield Police Chief Michael Tabor said, "a resident of Somers Cove turned his rear patio light on, observed, slumped in the corner of the patio, what he believed to be a body."

The victim, Thomas Edwards, was found with multiple gunshot wounds.  Edwards had only days before been released from prison.  He was set to serve a 15-year sentence for cocaine distribution, but was released on parole October 15th, only 18 months after he started his sentence at Eastern Correctional Institution in Westover.

Officers suspect the gun battle that led to Edwards' death was indeed drug related as a controlled substance was found in his had.

Somers Cove residents said they were not only afraid for the safety of themselves and their children; they were also just tired of the negative attention being brought to their neighborhood.

Jordan Joyner, a youth pastor in Crisfield who works with many of the children in the area said "I deal with kids everyday and on weekends and I just don't feel like they have a safe haven here anymore."

And as police search for answers -- they're asking for the community's support.

"People out there know who did this crime but we need somebody to step forward to give us that information," said Chief Tabor, "we need your support to take this out of Crisfield."

As result of the incident, a curfew has been put in place on Somers Cove from 10 pm - 6 am Friday, October 19th through Sunday, October 21st.

If you have any information, officers ask you call the station at  410-968-1323.
