DELAWARE - Officials are informing Delaware residents, who received spinal and joint injections, that the medication they received could now be recalled under the Food and Drug Administration's expanded recall of mediations.
The FDA has expanded the recall to of all New England Compounding Center medications, and told the Delaware Division of Pubic Health that 13 health care providers in Delaware received the medications that are now part of the recall. No illnesses in Delaware have been linked to the NECC medications.
All the facilities have been contacted, and have reportedly stopped using the medications. Patients who got the shots of the recalled medications, should be contacted by the facility they received it at. The products could have been administered into joints, the spine, eyes, or used during heart surgery.
DPH is advising anyone who received the shots, and is experiencing any of the following symptoms to see a doctor right away. Symptoms include: fever, new or worsening headache, nausea, and new neurological deficit. Symptoms typically have occurred within 1-4 weeks following injections. However, it can take longer so officials are advising patients to watch for symptoms for a several months after the injection.
The NECC product has been implicated in the infection of 233 people in 15 states and 15 deaths have been attributed to it.
