OCEAN CITY, Md. - Chief Bernadette DiPino officially accepts the chief
position in Sarasota, Florida, becoming the first woman chief of police
in the station's history.
After spending the past two days in her new community, she's back in the area and came over to WMDT right after her plane landed to talk about her new job.
Chief DiPino officially starts January 1st, 2013, but before she leaves, she tells us that though very excited about the next step in her career, Ocean City will always be special.
"The interactions with the citizens, the standing on the boardwalk at N. Division St. is one of my most favorite things to do," said Bernadette DiPino.
She added that she will always remember "saying hi to the kids and giving them police badges and giving people directions and just that interaction with the community, especially on the boardwalk."
Chief DiPino says she will serve out the remainder of the year, helping usher in a new era for Ocean City Police before moving to Sarasota, Fla.
She has been with Ocean City for the past 24 years, since 1988 and as chief of police since 2003.
