Sussex Co. GOP Backing Write-In Candidate For 19th District

GEORGETOWN, Del. - With Eric Bodenweiser suspending his campaign for the 19th State Senate District, the Sussex County Republican Committee is officially backing write-in candidate Brian Pettyjohn.

Pettyjohn, who filed for candidacy on October 1st, is the former mayor of Georgetown.  WMDT spoke with one of the committee members to find out what this means for the party.

"He [Eric Bodenweiser] is as of this moment still the official candidate," said Duke Brooks, communications director of the Sussex County Republican Committee. "It complicates things and certainly is a challenge for us; however, our focus and our agenda is to make sure that the 19th Senate District seat stays in Republican hands."

At this time, no official word has been released by the Bodenweiser campaign as to why he stepped down.
