DELAWARE - In local politics, WMDT has learned that Delaware Senate District 19 candidate Eric Bodenweiser is suspending his campaign. He reportedly gave notice to election officials on Friday.

At this time the reason why is unclear. Representatives tell us that a formal statement will be coming in the next few days.

On Tuesday, The Sussex County Republican Committee, released its own statement about the suspension saying, "The Sussex Republican Committee conducted an email poll of its Executive Committee members, comprising the Election District Committeepersons and Representative District Chairs in Sussex County.  A quorum of the Executive Committee responded, and the Committee has determined that the best course of action, in light of the Committee's charge to elect Republican candidates in Sussex County, is for the Sussex County Republican Committee to support the write-in candidacy of Brian Pettyjohn for the 19th Senate district."

Brian Pettyjohn, who is the former mayor of Georgetown, filed as a write-in candidate for the 19th Senate District on October 1st.
