BALTIMORE (AP) - Maryland health officials say they've now identified 14 cases of meningitis in the state believed to be linked to steroid injections for back pain.

The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said the total number of cases, as of Friday, stood at 14. One person has died.

The medication, made by a specialty pharmacy in Massachusetts, has been recalled.

The toll nationwide has slowly been growing. The latest figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show 184 illnesses and 14 deaths in 12 states.
