SALISBURY, Md. - Charles R. Dashiell, Sr., 88, of Salisbury passed away peacefully on October 10, 2012 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Wilmington, Delaware on November 25, 1923, he was the son of the late C. Myron and Lula W. Dashiell. Charles was a graduate of Wicomico High School and was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1941 where he served for 3 years in the 792nd Anti Aircraft Division, spent two years in the European Theater and saw action in the Battle of the Bulge. In 1945, he established the C. Myron Dashiell Insurance Agency which he sold in 1974. For many years he served as a certified property manager for Milford W. Twilley, managing all of his rental properties. In 1995 he joined Hebron Savings Bank as an in-house appraiser and home inspector. He was a past president of the Salisbury Jaycees, a former secretary of the Salisbury Rotary Club, and Scoutmaster of the Salisbury Rotary Club scout troop. He was also a former member of the Green Hill Yacht & Country Club, Ocean City Golf & Country Club, and Ocean Pines Country Club. He was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Salisbury. Boating was one of his favorite pastimes and he spent many hours cruising the Chesapeake Bay on his boat "Seventh Heaven." He spent his leisure time listening to big band music having attended many big band dances at the Wicomico Hotel Ballroom and the Pier Ballroom in Ocean City. As an Ocean City resident, he loved to walk the beach in the early morning hours with his dog. In recent years, his dog, Honey, was his constant car companion making friends with everyone she met. He loved people and enjoyed kidding and carrying on with everyone.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 37 years, Julia "Judy" L. Dashiell. He is also survived by a son of whom he was very proud, Charles R. "Chip" Dashiell, Jr., an attorney with Hearne & Bailey, P.A., and his wife, Ruby, a stepson, Dean Bozman and his wife, Nancy, and stepdaughter, Bonnie L. Deeney, and her husband, John. Bonnie was the daughter that he never had. His stepgranddaughter, Tara L. Clendaniel was his pride and joy as were her two children, Julia and Gabe who kept him young. Also he leaves his beloved stepgrandchildren, Geoffrey, Gordon, Eric and Kasey to cherish his memory along with two close friends Greg Clendaniel and Scot Daily.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 11 am at Holloway Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Saturday one hour prior to the service and on Friday, October 12, 2012 from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. The Rev. Benita Harris will officiate. Interment will be held following the service at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
