Support Delmar's Dream For Heron Pond's Amphitheater

DELMAR, Md. - Heron Ponds Amphitheater in Delmar had an outpouring of support when word got out that Country star, Kellie Pickler, would take center stage back in August. However, the down-pouring of rain washed out what was a sold out concert, and it seems that dark cloud remains with lingering expenses.

"I could have bought you a Ferrari with what that concert cost, but we had to put the people over profits," said amphitheater owner, Doug Marshall.

That's why they've started a push for support on Facebook. If they get 5,000 likes, Marshall plans to show investors that the building of a permanent structure is worth the money.

"Our first building will be a 40 by 60 stage, and behind that, we're going to build a large building that will be used for our offices. It will also be used for the artists to stay when they're in town," said Marshall.

Right now it's just an empty field of dreams, and about 100 acres of it too. However, officials say not only can they move the vision for the amphitheater forward, they can also attract other festivals and community events to the space as well.

"We could see restaurants, maybe some industry come this way. We're working on a lot of things and this could be the starting point," said Mayor Carl Anderton.

The project is expected to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Delmar officials say they're also looking into ways to calm noise and traffic in the area. For now, head to their Facebook page and show your support.
