SALISBURY, Md. - We're gearing up for another big event here on the shore, the 2012 Walk To End Alzheimer's Walk. WMDT's Alyana Gomez will be hosting the event.
Each week leading up to the event, we'll feature a participant fighting in support of a loved one.
On Thursday, we caught up with Grace Corbin, a young college student from Crisfield. Her grandfather Les Corbin was a former crabber, but was diagnosed with Dementia last year and is still battling the disease.
Sadly, her grandmother Nancy Tawes was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease some time before, and passed away in July.
"The way she remembered me was because I used to paint her nails and it was better that she remembered me at all than not at all," said Grace.
She also says her chances of getting the disease are doubled, which is why she feels even more compelled to help raise awareness.
She along with hundreds of others will be walking on Saturday October 27th in Salisbury. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 10.
